how did my 2021 new year's resolutions hold up?

and did i make 2022 resolutions?

One of my first newsletters last year was about my 2021 New Year’s resolutions. To hold myself accountable, I’m going to go through and see if I completed any. To be honest, I sort of forgot about them!

• Make croissants once even if they’re bad
  Um no, I did not make croissants. Still scared! Bye!

• Learn how to make a good hojicha latte
  I did make a few hojicha lattes this year, but I discovered that I like baking with hojicha more than I like drinking it! I made delish hojicha shortbread and hope to use up the rest of my hojicha powder to make biscotti or even cake.

• Make a two-layer cake entirely from scratch with cake, buttercream, filling, and decorations
  I did not do this in 2021, but I did for my birthday in 2022.

• Release a book or zine for people to buy
  I did not explicitly release a new design object for people to buy, but I did end up selling about 8 letterpress posters of mine. I’d call that a success!

• Book at least one *paid* freelance project from a new client
  I did freelance work for some friends this year, and also booked another job with a repeat client. I did a bit of outreach, but outreach is something I’d like to focus more on in 2022 if I have the bandwidth for it.

• Design a typeface even if it’s not good
  I sort of did this! I participated in a collaborative type design project, designing three characters for an alphabet. You can read more about it here.

• Go on a walk at least twice a week
  I really upped my walking game this year. I went on way more walks in the park when I lived in New York, but fell off when I went back to Portland. I’d like to continue to go on more walks this year!

• Vitamin D every weekday
  I go through so many phases with vitamin D. I was going strong last winter, did not take a single vitamin over the spring and summer, and recently started back up again last month. I learned that the trick is to keep it on my nightstand, not in the kitchen, that way I can just pop it in my mouth as soon as I wake up.

• Wash my face twice a day
  HAHA I did not do this!

I feel very unmotivated to make resolutions this year, which is probably a sign that I should just vibe and not force it. I’m aiming for some big life milestones that deserve my full attention and focus, some of which include: moving to a new state, moving in with my girlfriend, and getting a new/another job.
